Beaver Island, MI

Welcome to Lake Michigan Farms!

Set on an archipelago in the Northern Lake Michigan waters, our island farm is dedicated to revitalizing sustainable agriculture for our Beaver Island community. Many years ago, residents who lived here were entirely self-sufficient. Farming was a way of life and survival. Today, nearly 100% of our supplies come from imported goods. In many ways, this modern evolution has helped us to enrich our lives here but when it comes to food, our options for fresh, naturally grown produce are severely limited, especially in the Winter months. We aim to change that!

This Is What

We Stand For

Community First

Before all else, our community comes first. Each person that lives on the island deserves to have a variety of fresh nutritional food sources. We're here to make sure that happens with quality and year-round consistency.

Giving Back

For every item sold, we donate a portion of the proceeds to organizations who work tirelessly every day to better our island. Surplus produce is given to the local food pantry.

Island Independence

We envision an island food system that is strong enough to sustain us year-round. By creating pathways for other local growers and entrepreneurs to succeed, we can eliminate dependence on agricultural imports.

Join Us! I.S.L.A.N.D. Initiative

Every community has a unique system of components that make up the supply chain for local food. In the environmental world, this is called “the loop”. On Beaver Island, our goal at Lake Michigan Farms is to do a deep dive into the elements of each component and gain a better understanding of how our intricate food system operates. This comprehensive research will allow our organic farm to create a long term plan with functional steps that eliminate our island's dependence on agricultural imports.

It is so important that our local community is involved in this process! By joining us for our I.S.L.A.N.D. Initiative meetings and contributing your input and feedback along the way, together we can Implement Sustainable Local Agriculture and Nutrition Development!
