Our Mission
Grow Good Food
Our mission may sound simple but in our world, we abide by a philosophy that less is more; reverting to a time when complexity and complacency weren’t even options to survive. At Lake Michigan Farms, we strive to grow food that’s good for you AND the environment. All of our produce items are cultivated by hand using regenerative methods and organic practices. Instead of one large scale operation that depletes soil and nutrients, we have opted for an innovative approach using micro-farming techniques across multiple plots throughout the island; preserving our native ecosystems and promoting biodiversity.
Our Vision
Independence Without Imports
In terms of agricultural production and distribution, our area relies almost entirely on imports for supply. This dependency gets further exacerbated by climactic events and transportation restrictions which leave residents and businesses without consistent access to fresh food and commodities. With the complexities of living on a remote island, having year-round access to a variety of nutrition sources doesn’t have to be one of them.
Our aim is to eliminate dependency on agricultural imports by revitalizing farming as an industry and strengthening our local food system. Using geothermal greenhouses from repurposed materials and engineering strategic water reclamation efforts, we are able to generate a consistent source of organic produce without depleting natural resources.
