Beaver Island, MI
Welcome to
Lake Michigan Farms!
Set on an archipelago in the Northern Lake Michigan waters, our island farm is dedicated to revitalizing sustainable agriculture for our Beaver Island community. Many years ago, residents who lived here were entirely self-sufficient. Farming was a way of life and survival. Today, nearly 100% of our supplies come from imported goods. In many ways, this modern evolution has helped us to enrich our lives here but when it comes to food, our options for fresh, naturally grown produce are severely limited, especially in the Winter months. We aim to change that!

Join Us! I.S.L.A.N.D. Initiative
It is so important that our local community is involved in this process! By joining us for our I.S.L.A.N.D. Initiative meetings and contributing your input and feedback along the way, together we can Implement Sustainable Local Agriculture and Nutrition Development!
This Is What
We Stand For
Community First
Before all else, our community comes first. Each person that lives on the island deserves to have a variety of nutritional sources of food. We're here to make sure that happens with quality and year-round consistency.
We Give Back
For every item sold, we donate a portion of the proceeds to organizations who work tirelessly every day to better our island. Leftover produce that isn't sold or repurposed, is given to the local food pantry.
Island Independence
We envision an island food system that is strong enough to sustain us year-round. By creating pathways for other local growers and entrepreneurs to succeed, we can eliminate dependence on agricultural imports.
Some of Our
Early Stage Photos
One of our first entrepreneurial projects is converting a semi-trailer into an indoor greenhouse! While it’s early days yet, the goal is to expand our capabilities where traditional produce options as well as cultivars that aren’t common in Michigan, will be available year-round for island and mainland communities. Take a look below at what we’ve got going so far and make sure to follow us on Facebook @lakemifarms to stay in the loop!
